My approach

My general approach is to treat therapy an adventure for both client and therapist. This helps create a positive atmosphere for deaing with what ever turns up. Often there is a lot of humour, laughter and even fun along the way, as well as sadnesses that may occur. I am a sympathetic listener and good at holding people though any crises we might encounter.

My training is in the integrative and transpersonal tradition of psychotherapy. This means that I use a wide range of therapeutic languages, models and tools. If we work together, I’ll use those that are appropriate to you and your circumstances. These may include tools that use the immagination (e,g,visualisation), CBT or just talking things through. I am able to work in both psychidynamic and client centred, as well as with modes like Gestalt, Jungian and bodywork.

Generally, I start with a free phonecall of half an hour to sort out logistical details. This will be followed by an assessment in which we will make a therapeutic contract. The assessment will be a full session of therapy for which the standard fee will be charged, If after that we decide to continue there will be a review after six sessions if you have decided to stay for an open length of time. Alternatively, if you have arranged for a short term goal, this will happen at the end of the contract, at which time we can decide if we need to take more time. At both we can decide to cintinue if that is desired. If in longer term therapy, I generally prefer to have a months notice so we can work towards a proper ending.
